Swansea hub gets fastest internet connection in UK

A tech hub based in Swansea is to expand and offer the fastest internet connection of any hub in the UK.

TechHub Swansea was originally launched in 2013 but has now re-opened with a new building, increasing its space by 300 per cent.

The hub, which currently has 100 members, will provide extra office space for larger start-up companies.

Facilities

Tech start-ups can have access to a wide range of facilities at the hub, including meeting rooms, Skype facilities and BT Ultrafast broadband.

The building, which is part of a £25 million regeneration scheme by Coastal Housing Group, will also be providing a DVLA-sponsored workspace for workshops, conferences and meetups.

Set up to help entrepreneurs build and grow their business, the hub has been a success over the past few years, with over £1.5 million in funding being raised by its start-ups. The facility has also helped to create over 60 new tech jobs in the area.

As well as offering space for entrepreneurs, the ground floor of the building will also include a TechHub Cafe, which will provide charging points for laptops and phones so that members of the public can use the space to work and meet people.

Beneficial

Speaking about the hub’s new ultrafast broadband facility, BT Wales Director Alwen Williams said that the hub is one of the first in the world to take advantage of the “cutting edge” technology, and described the technology as “hugely beneficial” for start-ups and small businesses.
