UK entrepreneurs receive titles in 2017 New Year’s Honours

A host of business owners have been awarded titles from the Queen as part of the New Year’s Honours list.

This year’s list consisted of 1,047 recipients and featured entrepreneurs from a wide range of industries, including STEM (science, technology, education and maths), fashion and hospitality.

Diverse

This year’s list was one of the most diverse, with over 50 per cent of the total recipients being female. The list also had the highest ever number of people from a BAME (black, Asian, minority ethnic) background at 9.3 per cent.

Several female entrepreneurs were awarded titles, including fashion designer Victoria Beckham, Mumsnet Co-Founder Justine Roberts and handbag designer Anya Hindmarch MBE. Beckham was awarded an OBE for her services to the fashion industry, whilst Roberts and Hindmarch were awarded a CBE for their services to fashion and the economy respectively.

FirstCapital Chair and Co-Founder Hazel Moore also featured on the list, receiving the title of OBE for her services to innovation and entrepreneurship.

TeenTech Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Margaret Philbin was awarded the title of OBE for her work, which aims to get more young people working in science, engineering and technology,

Awarded

Amongst the list of male entrepreneurs who were awarded titles were chef and restaurateur Mark Hix, who received an MBE for his work in the hospitality industry, and angel investor and Entrepreneur First Partner Joe White, who was honoured with an MBE for his services to businesses in the technology sector.
