UK and Poland to work together to support entrepreneurs

The UK and Poland will be working together to support entrepreneurs from both countries, Prime Minister Theresa May has announced.

Speaking after a number of meetings between British and Polish government ministers earlier this week, May said that the main focus will be on supporting small enterprises and boosting economic ties between the UK and Poland.

Boost

In 2015, bilateral trade between the UK and Poland was worth £15 billion, and UK exports to Poland have doubled since 2006.

May also spoke about the rights of the nearly 1 million Poles in the UK following the UK’s decision to leave the EU in June, stating that she hopes that an agreement will be reached between London and Warsaw on their status.

There will also be more plans to boost the UK’s connections with Poland with the launch of an annual British-Polish Civil Society Forum, which is set to bring together business leaders, academics, communities and journalists next year.

The announcements came after the Polish Government held its first ever intergovernmental consultations in London with its British counterparts.

Co-operation

Speaking about the plans, May said that an agreement has been reached to build on that solid basis of economic cooperation, with new initiatives to provide support to small businesses.

“For example, our governments will bring together UK and Polish entrepreneurs to help them grow their companies by sharing best practice and expertise on areas such as regulation, technology and innovation,” she said.
