Majority of young people want to start businesses, shows survey

Research from ABE has found that 82 per cent of the UK’s young people want to become entrepreneurs.

The research showed that many young people are planning to set up their own business in the future, with 4 per cent already having done so.

Barriers

The research also found that more needs to be done to enable young people to explore their entrepreneurial potential.

90 per cent of respondents said that they would set up a business if barriers such as absence of skills or financial problems were removed.

ABE Director of International Marketing Kate Winter said: “Our research has indicated clearly that a large proportion of young people in the UK have entrepreneurial ability, most of which is untapped or untested.”

“It is encouraging to see the number of university places increasing following this year’s A-level results, but what our survey also shows is that more needs to be done to unlock our young people’s entrepreneurial potential, and cement the UK’s place as a hub for business innovation,” she added.
