Research shows increase in UK salaries

Research from CV-Library has shown an increase in salaries across the UK, with a rise of 1.3 per cent last month compared with October.

The latest job market data also showed a rise of 1.9 per cent in salaries in November since the previous year, with many key sectors seeing growth.

Highest

The data identified the sectors that saw the highest growth in salaries in November, with education topping the list at 7.7 per cent. This was followed by catering (7.4 per cent), retail (6.7 per cent), legal (5.6 per cent) and recruitment (1.7 per cent).

The cities with the highest salary growth were also revealed, with Cardiff seeing one of the biggest increases at 15.5 per cent. Brighton, Newcastle, Sheffield and Glasgow also saw an increase in advertised salaries last month, with a rise of 7.4 per cent, 5.4 per cent, 4.1 per cent and 3.9 per cent respectively.

Job vacancies also increased across the UK in November, with a year-on-year rise of 5.8 per cent. Amongst the sectors with the highest job growth were education (16.1 per cent), recruitment (11.1 per cent) and retail (5.6 per cent).

Positive

Commenting on the data, CV-Library Founder and Managing Director Lee Biggins said: “It’s positive to see that salaries are on the rise across the UK, especially in some of the nation’s key cities and industries. With Christmas fast approaching many businesses will have been working hard to recruit for additional seasonal staff. Not only this, but in the run up to the New Year many organisations will be looking to boost their recruitment efforts ahead of the January rush.”
