Financial services amongst the best-paid marketing jobs, shows research

The financial services sector is one of the best-paying sectors for junior marketing professionals, according to research from salary comparison website Emolument.

Research showed that junior marketing professionals working for banks and financial services companies earn an average salary of £37,000 with a £2,000 bonus.

The energy, chemicals and environmental sector was found to be the second-best-paying sector, with juniors starting out on a salary of £31,500. However, juniors working in this sector do not receive a bonus. This was followed by insurance, which pays £30,000 with a bonus of £1,000.

Senior roles

Research showed that professionals working in a senior marketing role in pharmaceuticals are the highest paid, with a median salary of £91,000 and a £20,000 bonus. This was followed by the FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) sector, with professionals earning a salary of £81,000 and a bonus of £22,500.

The tech and telecoms sector came in third place, with professionals on a salary of £86,000 and a £3,000 bonus, followed by the financial services sector with a salary of £85,000 and bonus of £8,000.

Digitalisation

Emolument co-founder and chief operating officer, Alice Leguay, said: “With the digitalisation of businesses across the board, marketing has shifted from an anecdotal support function (for many) to being the centre of attention and core to growth strategies and brand management, even in industries which had never considered it as such prior to the digital age, such as biotech or restaurants.”

She added that “expansion of marketing” has changed companies’ structures, and that marketing professionals are now under pressure to “stay at the forefront” of technological improvements and product development, adding “constant self-improvement to the job description.”
