Amazon to create 1000 permanent jobs across UK

Amazon to create 1000 permanent jobs across UK

Amazon plans to create 1000 permanent jobs across the UK in addition to 2500 jobs announced earlier this year, which will bring its total number of UK employees to 15,500 by the end of 2016.

The company will be offering a wide range of roles at its head office, R&D centres and fulfilment centres, with the jobs being spread across London, Manchester, Cambridge, Leicestershire and Edinburgh.

Supported

The news comes as Amazon released research on consumer shopping habits and the businesses that use the company’s marketplace service.

According to the research, 74,000 jobs are now being supported by third-party sellers on Amazon’s website.

The number of sellers offering products through Amazon Marketplace has steadily risen, with an increase of 20% in sellers and a turnover of more than £1 million in the past year.

The research found that Amazon Marketplace, which is used by tens of thousands of small independent businesses, generates almost half of Amazon’s global sales.

Experience

Commenting on the new job roles, Managing Director of Amazon UK, Doug Gurr, said that the company is creating thousands of new jobs to “continue to deliver the experience our customers know and love during the festive season and beyond.”

He added: “We are hiring for all types of roles from software engineers, computer programmers and corporate managers in our R&D centres and head office, to operations managers, engineers, service technicians, HR roles and order fulfilment roles in our fulfilment centres.”
