The UK’s biggest accountancy firms have been named the best social mobility employers for 2018 in the Social Mobility Foundation’s index, which was created in partnership with the City of London Corporation.
All Big Four accountancy firms made it into the top ten, with KPMG taking the number one spot for social mobility in this year’s index.
Action
The index looks at what action employers in the UK are taking to create a more inclusive workplace. KPMG rose from second place in last year’s index, taking the top spot from accountancy firm Grant Thornton, which came in second place.
Deloitte was ranked fifth best employer for social mobility, while PwC came in sixth place and EY jumped from 16th place to seventh place. EY was praised for its parental advice campaign, while Deloitte was recognised for helping to boost social mobility in the workplace.
The index, which was first launched last year, featured more than 100 businesses from 18 sectors, including banking firms and tech companies. Deloitte and PwC made it into the top ten in last year’s index, coming in fifth and seventh place respectively.
Opportunity
Commenting on the importance of social mobility and the action that KPMG will be taking to help boost it, KPMG’s Deputy Chair Melanie Richards said: “For us, social mobility is an integral part of the future of our business and the future of UK plc, which is why we will be collaborating with the wider business community to build on this success. Over the coming months we will be redoubling our efforts to take this work forward to create a fairer firm, pushing for a fairer industry and increasing opportunity for all within it.”
