Thousands of jobs created in East London since 2012, research shows

A report from Oxford Economics has found that 110,000 new jobs have been created in East London since the 2012 Olympics, with Hackney, Newham, and Tower Hamlets seeing the highest growth.

According to the research, Tower Hamlets has seen the highest increase in jobs since 2012, with 50,000 new jobs being created.

The number of jobs in Hackney has increased by 24.4 per cent as of 2017, which is five times higher than 2013’s forecast of 4.7 per cent. Newham now also has an additional 17,000 new jobs.

According to the report, jobs and employment rates in East London are expected to continue to get better.

Another 112,000 jobs are predicted to be created in the next twelve years across Tower Hamlets, Hackney, and Newham, as well as in the three other Olympic host boroughs of Greenwich, Waltham Forest, and Barking & Dagenham.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said that he is pleased that this area of the capital is providing tens of thousands of jobs for Londoners in industries such as science, technology and media.

He added: “It shows what can be achieved by bringing together a world-class public realm, access to culture and proper co-ordination between affordable housing, social infrastructure and transport, and should be a good example of providing good growth across our city.”
